Inglewood Lofts occupies the former site of the Charles Camsell Hospital, a significant institutional complex in Edmonton’s mid 20th century medical history. Originally established as a tuberculosis treatment facility and later operated as an Indian hospital, the site played a long and complex role in northern and Indigenous health care in Alberta. The hospital operated for several decades before closing in the late 20th century, leaving a prominent institutional structure within a mature residential neighbourhood.
A multi decade project, the site ultimately underwent a comprehensive redevelopment that included extensive Indigenous consultation and required complex environmental abatement and adaptive reuse work. The building has been converted to residential use, complemented by new townhouse construction on the surrounding lands. The completed development delivers over 190 apartment suites and approximately 20 townhomes, combining adaptive reuse with contemporary infill to create a mixed density residential community.
